Resources, Advice, and Products For Taking Care of Natural Black and African American Hair
One of the most important times to give your hair some special care is right before you go to sleep. Taking care of your hair before you sleep will make your hair easier to take care of when you wake up. Taking care of your hair before you sleep doesn't have to take long, but there are a few things you should be sure to do:
- Remove all hair accessories. Wearing hair accessories when you can sleep can cause tension on your hair leading to damage.
- Apply moisturizer to your hair if you can. Night time is a good time for your hair to get a moisturizing treatment. Apply some hair oil, or some leave in hair conditioner to your hair and gently massage it through your hair.
- If you are wearing a natural, separate your hair into sections, and loosely braid them. This will help to keep your hair from getting tangled or matted overnight.
- Wrap your hair in a smooth silk scarf or wear a silk sleep bonnet. This will help to reduce friction between your hair and your pillowcase. If you wear braids or twists, tying up your hair a night will also prevent your hair from getting fuzzy.
